2010 Summer Workshop:
Shibori Dyeing Techniques
August 24-25-26, 2010 (Tuesday through Thursday)
Led by Water Gap Retreat owner Michael Davis, who also owns Shibori West Textile Designs, this workshop will guide you through the basics of the Japanese dyeing technique called arashi shibori, in which silk is pleated and wrapped around a pole to create the distinct “rain-over-water” pattern from which it takes its Japanese name. You'll leave Water Gap Retreat with an understanding of shibori dyeing and at least one shibori-dyed artwork you have created yourself.
The Water Gap Retreat sleeping shelters will be available to rent, if you would like to stay at Water Gap Retreat during the workshop. Please visit our VACATION RENTALS page for more information.
In addition to the workshops we have scheduled for the general public, we are pleased to work with your group to plan and produce a workshop tailored to your specific needs and interests.
If you want us to provide some or all of your meals, including bagged lunches, we do great meals that feature locally-grown organic produce from Rolling Thunder Farm and breads, granola, and desserts from La Fontaine Bakery.
If your group is interested in evening entertainment or a guided outing, we can make the arrangements for these, as well. Call or e-mail us to discuss options and prices.
